A familiar street can feel entirely new when you walk it slowly. The faded lettering above a doorway, a fern in a cracked window, the sound of a bicycle on wet pavement: small details ask for very little of us, except that we notice.
Attention is a practice, not a resource to spend all at once. A reader pauses over a sentence. A gardener turns a leaf toward the light. Both make room for something that might otherwise pass unseen. What we choose to notice becomes part of what we remember.
Leave a little space in the day for an unfinished thought.
A note in the margin preserves a particular moment of understanding. Return to the same words tomorrow and you may read them differently. The words remain; your conversation with them continues.
